On January 31st, The Career Institute in Barstow along with the Barstow Chamber of Commerce held a Leadership kickoff mixer at the Harvey House in Barstow. We had a wonderful turn out of important and inspiring members of the community interested in helping our youth. This was a great way to start our month long leadership program!

Farrells Ice Cream Parlour Fun!
Today Rancho Cuamonga's Hospitality team started our leadership connection. We had our kick off at Farrells Ice Cream Parlour where we got to tour the whole restaurant inside and out! We even got to go behind the scenes in the freezer and also toured/experienced their staff prep food and ice cream. We also got the 'scoop' of all the different kinds of ice cream they serve and how they serve it. After our tour we got to enjoy a wonderful Vanilla ice cream Sundae with hot fudge, nuts and a cherry. What a way to kick off our leadership connection of 2014!

The Sheraton Fairplex Hotel Welcomes its newest Front Desk Agent

Pedro Rodriguez, a former graduate of the Career Institute's Hospitality Program, is now one of Sheraton's newest front desk agents. During the programs work experience, Pedro took the position of bellman. Which included duties as assisting guest with luggage, answering phone calls, and even being a concierge when needed. However, he did not stop there. Pedro perused interest in the operations of the front office and was curious how the hotel mantains, such high levels of customer service. Through guidance from his career mentor Terry Stedman, Pedro is now a working professional. His upcoming goals in his career is to enroll into Mt.San Antonio Community College for his GED. Also to save and purchase a vehicle for his commutes. Once again its makes us very proud as Career Institute ambassadors to see our fellow students prosper in reaching their dreams.

Let the expansion begin! This week we sent out email blasts to counselors at our local high schools in an attempt to set up informational meetings about who we are and what we do, for recruitment purposes. Stay tuned for more great things happening at our Victorville office!

January's Training included a brainstorming session. Everyone had good ideas to contribute,  and I am looking forward to working with my mentor and fellow student ambassador to implement some of these ideas.

Keep in mind fellow Ambassadors, your local Employment Resource Center is a useful tool to reach out to young adults and direct them to our programs, including the high school completion and GED program. Make sure to provide their office with flyers and business cards.

#SuccessSaturday
"What lies ahead of us or behind us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us"-- Emerson
The Emerson philosophy had guided our work since 1994. We work at developing the potential gifts and talents that lie within a person as we learn from the past and plan for an excellent future.
This is Career Institutes Moto! To bring success to the young adults in our community and support them in meeting their goals for the future.

Student Ambassadors!

Introducing Career Institutes Student Ambassadors of 2014!

Recently we had a overnight training were we got to know one another and built friendships. We brain-stormed and was taught how to be a great student ambassador through journalism, marketing and simply sharing our own personal stories. The Career Institute each brought us to were we are today. Individually we wouldn't be where we are today without the wonderful opportunity's the Career Institute provided for us. We each went beyond expectations our mentors gave us, and succeeded in the paths we had chosen after we had graduated from this program. Each of us were chosen carefully to be the new faces of the Career Institute, and I'm personally extremely grateful for this opportunity. Not only to be one of new faces of the Career Institute, but to provide a better future of the youth in my community; just like the Career Institute provided for me.
